Hello!

We're a friendly and welcoming church in Wiveliscombe in Somerset (UK).

Our main Sunday services are normally at 11.00 am and 6.00pm. We warmly welcome everyone, and you'll find the church buildings in Silver Street. Limited Car parking is available at the chapel with additional Car Parking in the Croft Way Car Park behind the Community Centre and in North Street. We are an independent, evangelical fellowship, founded in 1662 - we've been in our present chapel since 1708 - yet we're looking forward to the future.

Within these pages, you can learn more about our heritage but more importantly the people who make up the church and our vision for the future.

Adjacent to the chapel is the recently built Silver Street Centre and Manse. The Silver Street Centre comprises of a main hall capable of seating up to 100 people with two additional syndicate rooms and these facilities are available for hire.

Baptisms / Christenings

As a Church, we follow the Baptist practice of only baptising those old enough to understand the significance of baptism - which we see as a public declaration of the individual repenting of his/her sin and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of his/her life. Thus, like many other churches, we do not baptise or "Christen" babies. However, we offer a service of thanksgiving for the birth of a child, at which the parents thank God for the safe arrival of the child. Some parents choose to dedicate themselves to bringing up the child within the Christian faith. To arrange, please contact the Pastor (see menu on left!)

Weddings

Please contact the Pastor to make enquiries about a service of marriage. Please note you should normally be resident within the local area (though not necessarily Wiveliscombe itself) or have some other connection with the church, in order to be married in the chapel. The Pastor will be able to discuss with you suitable hymns and the order of service.

Funerals

To arrange a funeral, please contact the Pastor; usually, arrangements are made in conjunction with the funeral director. The graveyard beside the chapel is no longer used for burials, although the graveyard at St. Andrew's is.

For all of these events, the Silver Street Centre, adjacent to the chapel, may be hired for small functions - up to 100 guests may be accommodated. Please note that there are some restrictions on the consumption of alcohol at events in the Silver Street Centre (ask for full details).

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
